Summer Term 2006

MEDes Workshop Köln (13.-18.3. 2006)
Workshop at KISD with all the MEDes Students from Glasgow, Milan, Paris, Stuttgart, Helsinki and Stockholm led by professors from the participating universities.
The work has been done all around the clock in the rooms of KISD (24h).

Armed Response Workshop at WSOA, South Africa (20.-27.2 2006)
By invitation of the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, I gave a workshop at WSOA in Johannesburg about the privatisation of security in both first and thrid world countries. The Workshop with 8 Students of the postgraduate programme of the Wits School of Arts (Digital Arts Department) was part of a broader initiative including a stage play and a conference taking place in JoBurg in May 2006. Work on the project will be continued, maybe including KISD students or the KISD network of partner universities.

Interface Konzepte: Mixed Reality und urbaner Raum (19.4.-1.6. 2006)
In Zusammenarbeit mit Roberto Lopez (235 Media) entwickeln wir in diesem Projekt interaktive, gestenbasierte Anwendungen für ein im Raum stehendes Durchsicht-Display. Dieses Display überlagert Projektion und Realraum und erlaubt sowohl die Steuerung einer interaktiven Anwendung wie auch bestimmter Elemente und Aktionen im Realraum.
Zu Beginn des Projektes entwickeln wir eine Vielzahl von Konzepten, die dann in der zweiten Hälfte in einem intensiven Workshop mit Laborcharakter umgesetzt werden. Sie sollten in den letzten 2 Wochen intensiv Zeit einplanen und kein Projekt parallel belegen – und werden dafür der Öffentlichkeit interessante Konzepte präsentieren, mutmaßlich an einem wahrlich elaborierten Ort inmitten von Köln.

Virtuelle Akademie (2.6.-6.7.. 2006)
Im Rahmen eines EU-Innovationsprojektes entwickelt Siemens gemeinsam mit dem Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe (BBK) den Prototypen für eine virtuelle Akademie. Damit soll das europäische Ausbildungssystem im Bereich Bevölkerungsschutz harmonisiert werden, ein Netzwerk zwischen den europäischen Ausbildungseinrichtungen geschaffen werden und die Ausbildung durch den Einsatz moderner Technologien effizienter, ortsunabhängiger und vernetzter werden.  

Die KISD ist eingeladen, verschiedene Gestaltungsansätze für dieses Lernportal zu entwickeln. Bei der Entwicklung von Konzept, Informationsarchitektur und Interface sollen Aspekte des blended Learning (also der Kombination von Präsenz- und e-Learning) besonders berücksichtigt werden.
Im Rahmen des Projektes entstehen so unter realen Randbedingungen unterschiedliche Interfaceansätze, von denen (mindestens) einer zu einem interaktiven Prototyp führen wird.

Human-Computer-Interaction (Seminar in Cooperation with Prof. Dr. Plassmann, Wednesday 8.30 AM-12.30 AM)

Human-Computer Interaction deals with the analysis, the draft, the evaluation and the implementation of interactive computer-based systems that support human action. In this seminar, components of the human-computer-systems and their interplays will be discussed from different perspectives, conceptual models of systems will be developed, methods and techniques for draft, evaluation and implementation will be presented and critically discussed.
Aim of the seminar is to observe, understand and develop interactive systems from "both sides of the screen". The seminar will be divided in a lecture and a seminar work part and adresses both students from media informatics and design.
With the perspective on HCI, the taxonomy and structure of the area of the ACM Special Interest Group (SIGCHI) will be discussed. A methodological approach on the topic will be both introduced and discussed.
This assumes absolute interest in the topic and at least basic knowledge in the field of Interface Design - and is an ideal fundament for the autonomous development of personal focal points of interest.
