Verena Friedrich is an artist who creates time-based installations in which organic, electronic, and sculptural media come into play.

As part of her presentation, she will talk about her research and process of developing and designing artifacts – machines that materialize and mediate questions on the interrelations between the body, science, technology and society.

Verena Friedrich is an artist and assistant professor at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM), where she co-directs the exMedia Lab. Her projects have been presented internationally in the context of exhibitions, media art festivals and conferences. She received the International Media Award for Science and Art from ZKM (Karlsruhe), the Share Prize XI (Turin), the TRANSITIO_MX Award (Mexico City), the lab.30 Award (Augsburg), an EMARE grant, as well as special mentions in the Prix Ars Electronica, and the Japan Media Arts Festival. Within Germany, she was the recipient of the Young Artist Award of the state of NRW, a work stipend from Kunstfonds Foundation, and two Young Talent Awards by the Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia. She holds degrees from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and the University of Art and Design Offenbach.
