The second KISDtalks event of this semester will take place directly in the MXL on Air format: we are delighted to welcome media artist and live synth performer Nelly-Eve Rajotte from Canada. She is also a professor at UQAM and a guest at Prof. Nina Juric’s Motion Experience Lab. Prof. Juric will be hosting the evening in the MXL.

The Delicacy of Invasive Machines by Nelly-Eve Rajotte

In this KISDtalk, Nelly-Eve Rajotte explores how contemporary technologies – including surgical robotics, LiDAR scanning, biometric sensors, and artificial intelligence – can be reconfigured to produce imagery that emerges from the perspective of the living world. By reconfiguring devices originally designed for measurement, control, or representation, she aims to explore new modes of presence, otherness, and sensoriality.

Through the presentation of her two recent works, The Trees Communicate with Each Other at 220 Hertz and Matter (2024), In the Depths of Flesh, the Delicacy of Invasive Machines (2025), the artist will address how the aesthetics of the non-human and machinic visions of landscape can open up immersive and empathic experiences.

Doors open: 17:00 / Talk starts at 17:30 – MXL, Room 404
Please arrive in good time, as the MXL has limited capacity.

Nelly-Eve Rajotte
is an artist and a professor at the School of Design at UQAM in Montreal, where she leads research on moving image and sound design. She creates immersive installations and performances that explore non-human ways of seeing. In this performance, she works with LiDAR — laser scanning that measures distance — as well as biosensors, artificial intelligence and robotics.
Her work has been shown at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Musée d’art de Joliette, Contemporary Calgary, MUTEK, transmediale Berlin, ISEA and KIKK Festival, and is held in several public collections.

Don’t miss out:

Nelly-Eve Rajotte is currently touring Europe as part of the MUTEK Montréal Network and will be appearing at the Mesh Festival in Basel before coming to see us in Cologne… Anyone who can make the time shouldn’t miss this festival, which features a conference and a varied programme centred around the HEK in Basel. Nelly-Eve Rajotte will be presenting her work “Trees communicate with each other at 220 hertz A/V” there: https://meshfestival.ch/events/nelly-eve-rajotte/de-
