On Friday, June 15, and Saturday, June 16, students from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and from KISD – Köln International School of Design will present the pieces of furniture they designed in Australia (and have now built in Cologne) in Cologne’s Belgian Quarter. In a joint project of the two schools involved, students were briefed at the beginning to develop a manifesto that would follow the subsequent design process. This process focused on objects and furniture. The driving factor that ties the presented pieces together is the idea of a contrast between materials, shapes, and colors – with a focus on joinery and with the design of the furniture being simple yet surprising. The international group of students was divided into sub-groups that also developed marketing strategies and graphic content which, together with the furniture and other smaller products, will in the end culminate in the opening of a pop-up store.
KISD warmly invites to join the presentation on Friday and Saturday.
