Anne Karrenbrock works as a research assistant in the Code & Context degree programme for the Cologne International School for Design and conducts research on the energy transition in the interdisciplinary research project MEnergie at the TH Köln.
Anne Karrenbrock studied industrial design at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at the Holon Institute of Technology in Israel and completed her master’s degree in product design at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2015. Primarily using participatory design methods, she has worked in research and teaching in the Social Design department at Folkwang UdK, the Ubiquitous Design chair at the University of Siegen, and the Social Urban Design Competence Center at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences.
Most recently, she conducted research at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy gGmbH in the department of Sustainable Production and Consumption and the Flieder University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf in the research cluster Innovation and Implementation for the Transformation of Society. Since the beginning of 2022, she has been conducting research on the energy transition at Cologne University of Applied Sciences and teaching in the Code & Context programme.
Anne Karrenbrock prefers to conceive, design and examine things that may serve as little helpers, so that people can use them to outwit their inner lack of will power and thus change personal everyday processes for the better. She is particularly interested in moments in which individuals and groups (can) make decisions. Her goal is to find ways to make these moments conscious and therefore decisions negotiable.
