MXL ON AIR: UR1/VVЯ – AV performance as part of HUMAN INPUT / 23 January 2025 · Berghain Kantine, Berlin
MXL ON AIR is an open, studio-oriented event format organised by the Motion Experience Lab (MXL) at KISD, which invites students, guests and external visitors to witness ongoing production processes in the context of practice-based design teaching.
The focus is on visualising live setups of media art productions, performative working methods and experimental audio-visual environments, and how bodies perform in them as they are being created. The deliberate opening of the rehearsal space enables feedback situations and iterative improvements as an integral part of performative design and relational design processes. MXL ON AIR thus reflects the working methods of the Motion Experience Lab as a learning and production environment in which experimentation, failure, adaptation, redoing and refinement are central elements of innovative image and motion design practice, usually also involving elements of interaction.
After several rehearsals at KISD, the light and sound performance is now ready for its final presentation on 23 January at the Berghain Kantine in Berlin, which will take place in collaboration with renowned artist Moritz Simon Geist as part of his event format HUMAN INPUT.
The rehearsals were part of a self-initiated project supervised by Prof. Nina Juric in the Image & Motion department (MXL – Motion Experience Lab). They were designed as open working sessions and served specifically for testing, feedback and the continuous development of the final audio-visual work. In this iterative process, the light and sound performance has been prepared for its appearance on 23 January at the Berghain Kantine in Berlin.
