In 1999, KISD joined forces with six European design institutes to create the MEDes Master of European Design. This is a joint programme enabling participating students to deepen their cultural, academic and professional experience within Europe by spending two academic years in two countries other than their own.
Our important strategic network within Europe is the so-called MEDes. Seven European institutions are committed to enabling and fostering an innovative and internationally oriented design education. Apart from KISD, the following institutions are part of the network:
Aalto School of Art & Design (Helsinki, Finland)
Glasgow School of Art (Glasgow, UK)
ENSCI Les Ateliers (Paris, France)
Konstfack (Stockholm, Sweden)
Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy)
University of Aveiro (Aveiro, Portugal).
At KISD, B.A. students choose a study branch in their second year of studying. The study branch European Design means joining the MEDes program. MEDes students from all seven institutions participate in the annual MEDes workshop and spend their third year of the bachelor programme abroad at one of the partners as well as their first year of the MA programme.
At the 20th anniversary of the network and programme in 2019, students created a short video describing the MEDes experience:
