The KISDedition has published a new journal: »rrrreflect: Journal of Integrated Design Research«. As a digital open access journal, »rrrreflect« presents outstanding works by KISD graduates, professors, lecturers, and guests from all areas of integrated design. »rrrreflect« is published online and archived by Cologne Open Science under the Creative Commons CC-BY license.
With this journal for design research, KISD opens up a field of experimentation for textual and non-textual forms of knowledge, including image, video and sound. It thus enters into a dialogue with the current discourse on the scientific nature of design research and at the same time refers to the sensory dimensions of perception as epistemically constitutive. Pronounced with a rolled ›r‹, the title is intended to evoke the growl of a wild animal that can burst out of the undergrowth of theory at any time and surprise the reader.
The journal and its peer-review process are continuously developed at KISD in collaboration with the international design research community. It uses an innovative publishing pipeline developed at KISD. Both the website and the archived PDF documents are generated from a common source using web-to-print technology.
»rrrreflect« was developed by KISD students as part of the research workgroup; supervised and supported by Prof. Dr. Lasse Scherffig, Prof. Dr. Carolin Höfler, Yvonne Lober, Simon Meienberg, and Conrad Weise.
The first issue contains articles by KISD alumni Leon Schniewind, Finn Steffens and Charlotte Werth. Leon Schniewind’s article »BLANK – Eine rezeptionsästhetische Praxis« deals with the theory and analysis of reception aesthetics in design practice. In »Epidemic Geographies«, Finn Steffens analyzes divergent conceptions of geography and space during the Covid-19 pandemic. In »Sustainability in Fashion: Project 03«, Charlotte Werth presents a series of hands-on experiments exploring the applicability of the bacterium Janthinobacterium lividum as a method for the sustainable dyeing of fabrics.
