»Memory Practices – Societal Perspectives«
Research Day of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences 2024

The research day examines memory practices that constitute cultural memory (Erinnerungskultur) by taking up societal perspectives – notably in regard to examples such as heritage, virtuality and intersectionality. It analyzes the diversity of memory practices as coexistence of different references to the past in the present and investigates the various functions and strategies that actors pursue by »doing memory«. It thus contributes to the development of a scientific field of memory studies that conducts research for (and with) society, makes memory studies effective for civil society, shapes social innovations and places major social challenges at the centre of its research.

»Memory Artefacts«
Research Day of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences 2023

The research day invites to reflect on »Memory Artefacts«. In recent years, questions about memory culture and collective memory have been booming in the cultural studies. The aim of the event is to mobilize the expertise available at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and other institutes of the TH Köln on media artifacts – i.e. physical as well as digital objects, places and systems that are subject to human intervention – for the development of new perspectives on memory culture. The research day serves the faculty and the cooperating institutes of TH Köln as a central stage towards a joint interdisciplinary collaborative project.
