This year, for the first time in three years, our students are going to recreate this cherished KISD tradition that was lost through covid: the Cologne Klopfer will be awarded to a renowned designer.
The Kölner Klopfer is an annual design award established in 1996 by KISD students. One of the very few of its kind, it honors the ‘world’s best designer’ as chosen by the student body. The award was conceived as a counterpart to the ‘Bambi’ television award, hence the name “Klopfer” (Knocker), Bambis little friend in the book and famous Walt Disney movie.
Notable winners include Stefan Sagmeister, Dieter Rams, James Auger, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, Motoko Ishi, Sarah Illenberger, Erik Spiekermann, Ingo Maurer and Julia Kahl.
Not only will the knocker be resurrected, it will also get a new visual identity that moves away from the original knocker design, as seen in the picture above. More details on the new design and of course the award ceremony will be announced soon!
