KISD-graduates Christian Kueller and Christian Zander were awarded the “Young Design Plus Award”, powered by Light + Building, for their project model of “Libelle“ – moving lights.

The prize is given to talented young designers and architects and is organized by Messe Frankfurt, the trade fair “Light + Building“ in cooperation with German Design Council. Zander’s and Kueller’s model of the lamp “Libelle“ (dragonfly) originated from a semester project at KISD – Köln International School for Design supervised by Prof. Hatto Grosse.

The idea for “Libelle“, originating from a joint project of KISD with Trilux company, manufacturer of light, stemmed from current developments in the architecture and interior design of transforming office environments. Since the individual workplace becomes more and more flexible, the lamp “Libelle” renders possible individual light settings and lighting effects. Inspired in form and function by a dragonfly, four wings independently rotate and can be differently focused according to individual needs – also by means of varied atmospheres of dimmable lighting. Main objective of the KISD project was to combine and integrate LED-technology with synthetic lighting material. This also took into account topics like industry 4.0, smart grids, innovation, and sustainability.

“We are very pleased to receive this award. Through designing ‘Libelle,‘ we developed a frameless lamp which in its character and design is reduced to its essential elements. In form, function, and technology, it meets current and future standards of office environments and bears into mind that the individual workplace, instead of static, becomes more and more flexible,“ stressed Christian Zander and Christian Kueller, KISD graduates of 2015.

This year, the talent award “Design Plus“ of Messe Frankfurt and “Light + Building“ – addressed to young designers and architects and held every two years – witnessed 88 submitted project works. 13 of them were eventually awarded and exhibited at the trade fair “Light + Building“ in Frankfurt from March 13 to March 18.
