‘MOMENTOUS’, a photobook of KISD graduate Byron Co, is among the 51 shortlisted entries in the Dummy Award ‘24.

The international photobook competition held annually by The PhobookMuseum showcases the best unpublished photobook dummies from around the world. This year has attracted a record number of 420 books from 44 countries.

On March 9th, the jury of diverse photobook experts met in Cologne for the selection process. According to the Museum, the quality of the submissions was very high. “These dummies are amazingly thought of and very well printed: many of them are ready to stop being dummies!”, said Nina Strand, Jury Member.

As part of the Dummy Award ‘24 shortlist, MOMENTOUS will travel around the world, visiting different festivals and venues in the coming year. The Dummy Award World Tour kicks off its travelling exhibition at the PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne until May, 2024.

For more information about the voting, exhibition, and upcoming tour dates, please visit the  Dummy Award website.

“MOMENTOUS” started as a Master Thesis at KISD and was nominated in the 2023 Cologne Design Award. Through archival photography and the photobook process, Byron Co transformed old analog images into a photobook of historical and heartfelt imagery. The photos were taken by Annemarie Gawellek and Nathaniel Gutierrez during the 1960s in Cologne and in the Philippines.
