The *Special Issue: Hidden Layers* is now available as an open access publication via the “rrrreflect Journal of Integrated Design Research“.
Edited by KISD faculty Matthias Grund & Lasse Scherffig, the papers explore the key themes and discussions of the second edition of the Hidden Layers conference, held at KISD from June 12-15, 2024, addressing the aesthetic challenges to visual culture posed by generative AI; reminding us how AI applications in general are deeply embedded in yet further systemic inequalities; providing practical insights into the use of artificial intelligence in creative practices; and considering the potential of AI as a creative collaborator.
With contributions from Silvio Lorusso, Roland Meyer, Maria-Teresa De Rosa Palmini, Laura Juliane Wagner, Anton Koch, Cláudia Sevivas, Sylvia Rijmer, Vito Evola and Pamela C. Scorzin.
Accompanying the publication are recordings of the conference, which complement the collection with artist talks by Joana Moll and Ralf Baecker, both of whom offer unique perspectives on the materiality of AI’s hidden subface.
