»Memory Practices – Societal Perspectives«
Research Day of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences 2024

The research day examines memory practices that constitute cultural memory (Erinnerungskultur) by taking up societal perspectives – notably in regard to examples such as heritage, virtuality and intersectionality. It analyzes the diversity of memory practices as coexistence of different references to the past in the present and investigates the various functions and strategies that actors pursue by »doing memory«. It thus contributes to the development of a scientific field of memory studies that conducts research for (and with) society, makes memory studies effective for civil society, shapes social innovations and places major social challenges at the centre of its research.
