From November 16 to 23, 2018, KISD students present the exhibition “Beyond the Senses“ in the rooms of the GAA Foundation in Venice. The design research project, supervised by Prof. Dr. Carolin Höfler, explores the new conditions of human perception in relation to technically constructed realities.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the relationships between bodies, environments and inner worlds are interconnected using information technology. What consequences could these interconnections have for the construction of space and sensory perception? This design research project investigates the interaction between the sensing subject and an ever increasingly »sensory aware« environment. What happens to our sense of time, space, and body in these new programmed, immersive environments?

The exhibition takes up this topic. An interactive installation and a series of video works show intensive milieus organized by sensitive bodies, physical spaces, and scripted realities. They have been specially developed for Venice to experience the urban environment as a milieu of techno-affective intensities. Inscribed into these milieus is both the desire to transgress, and the desire for control.

The exhibition project is a cooperation between KISD – Köln International School of Design of TH Köln and the GAA Foundation in Venice.
