Dr. Sandra Buchmüller
Designer, Design Researcher, Berlin University
of the Arts, Berlin
Criticizing designed artifacts that are either gender stereotype or gender blind, the talk shows how insights and theories of Gender Studies, Science and Technology Studies as well as feminist Epistemologies can contribute to a design research practice that considers gender and diversity aspects in a social responsible way. Sandra Buchmüller works as a design researcher, user experience designer, and design editor for different institutions and companies. As a former student of the KISD, her research interest on gender and design was initially awakened by Uta Brandes. It intensified during her work at the Telekom Innovation Laboratories and Design Research Lab at UdK in Berlin and resulted in her PhD thesis that provides a critical view on past and current gender-based power structures.
