Your area of work
You will be responsible for teaching in the Bachelor and Master programs “Integrated Design” at the Köln International School of Design (KISD), an institute of the Faculty of Cultural Studies.
The focal points of your work is:
  • Teaching and research on the theory and practice of developing formal and visual languages, analog and digital craft, and implementing alternative and advanced production technologies
  • Exploring innovative, integrative, and intelligent product and system design with a focus on sustainability
  • Integration of self-initiated experimental research and practical production-oriented application
  • Collaboration with other design disciplines at KISD, TH Köln and international partner universities, as well as industry, cultural, governmental and non-governmental organizations
  • Teaching in English
  • Conception of courses and participation in curricular planning
  • Academic self-administration and committee work
Your profile
You have a university degree (design or design-related field) with outstanding achievements and at least five years of subject-related professional experience, including at least 3 years outside of academia. You have a doctorate or can provide evidence of doctorate-adequate achievements or a special aptitude for artistic work or outstanding subject-related achievements in practice through an expert opinion from a professor. In exceptional cases, outstanding achievements in practice can replace a doctorate or achievements adequate for a doctorate. These must also be confirmed by an expert opinion.
You have experience in teaching and possess a comprehensive understanding of the field of industrial design through your professional involvement in all phases of the design process. You have knowledge of techniques and technologies that are both analog and digital, diverse and holistic, experimental and applied. You have a broad vision for the future of design and the ability to articulate and manifest that vision. You are committed to sustainability and social innovation. You have gained international experience through your design practice, with direct involvement in projects that transcend individual national boundaries. Experience in non-European countries and emerging markets, ideally through relocation, is highly desirable. Excellent written and spoken English skills are required. (Proficiency in German is not required).
