Since a UN resolution in 1999, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women has been held every year on November 25, because unfortunately it is still a reality that women and girls suffer from gender-based violence and discrimination.

The “Orange Days” therefore set an example worldwide against violence against women and girls. From November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day), many campaigns will draw attention to the issue.

This year, the TH Köln is also participating in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

An exhibition on the topic of “Intimate Partner Violence” will be held today from 10 am to 6 pm at Ubierring 48 (entrance area/corridor). 5 steles sensitize for the topic and show what possibilities outsiders have to act if they witness intimate partner violence. The exhibition was conceived by Luisa Hoffmeister, a student at Köln International School of Design (KISD) in the Faculty of Cultural Studies, and was created as part of her intermediate exam with Professor Iris Utikal. Individual texts and an additional information flyer were formulated in cooperation with students of the seminar “Intervention in cases of domestic violence” by Petra Ladenburger at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences. The realization of the exhibition was made possible by the central equal opportunity commissioner.

The TH Köln is also participating in the campaign “Köln leuchtet orange!” by placing orange lights in the foyers of the buildings Claudiusstraße 1 and Ubierring 48 from 6 p.m. to midnight tonight.
