On the occasion of the exhibition »Akademie [Arbeitstitel]« (»Academy [Working Title]«) in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf 2017/18, a team of six KISD students designed a temporary and constantly changing workspace – the »Büro für dokumentarische Angelegenheiten« (»Bureau for Documentary Affairs«).
The exhibition, divided into six temporal sections, was characterized by constant change of artists (100 names), exhibition contributions, dance, performances, concerts and discussion rounds, in which data and background material of all actions were cyclically collected, processed and made accessible to visitors in a new form. A hybrid between office and exhibition space was created, through which the special nature of the exhibition was captured in an all-encompassing way and incorporated into the creation of a catalog. The focus of all participants was the examination of the topic of the archive – the question of the function of the archive as a place of memory and the questioning of existing and future categories and ordering systems of archiving. What role does the archive play in artistic practice and how are dynamic and hybrid exhibition formats reflected in it?
