In recent years, the design discipline has become increasingly aware of the importance of the social perspective, namely the growing dissemination of social and ethical concerns. This has led to a rapidly growing interest in fostering more sustainable user behaviour and a need for careful evaluation of ethical issues. These concerns are critical when working with colour, as it is a fundamental resource for building communication with users in visual, product, and environmental design, through appeal and marketing. When addressing the current needs of the design discipline, designers should carefully evaluate sustainable colour applications, stimulate critical thinking, and foster concrete actions related to understanding how to reuse, recycle, and recover colours. This talk proposes a reflection structured through strategies on colour sustainability for design practice. It aims to reflect on how to produce less waste and build a better relationship between humans, natural and human-made environments, and colour phenomena.

This KISDtalk is one of two talks held on the 24th of May and can be joined in room 11 or online via Zoom.
