Following an integrative claim, research at KISD combines different characteristics and approaches – from theoretical research, which opens up new content-related and methodological approaches to design, to empirical investigations of cultural, societal, social, economic and ecological phenomena in history and the present, to the specific application of innovative methods and technologies for the production of new artifacts, systems, processes and tools. The research projects focus on the four interdisciplinary clusters Material Systems & Lab Culture, Social & Public Innovation, Urban Intensities & Resources or Visual Cultures & Politics.
