On November 8, 2023, the inter-university symposium »Remembering with the Public: Towards a Cooperative Cultural Studies« will take place. The aim of the event is to generate new knowledge about the dynamics of collaborative work in researching and shaping memory cultures.
The symposium asks how academic actors can research and develop memory culture in cooperation with non-academic actors. In the course of the shift towards an »ethical culture of memory« (Aleida Assmann) since the 1990s, a more cooperation-oriented integration of non-academic actors in the research and design of memory culture has been noticeable – for example, with regard to the consideration of eyewitnesses. However, the special challenges of cooperation, such as those posed by postcolonialism, gender, or art, have received little attention, and even less in transdisciplinary dialog and comparison.
The symposium is part of the research network »The Public Sphere of Culture« based at the TH Köln, the University of Cologne and the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and funded by the BMBF project »Plan_CV« of the TH Köln. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Interested parties are welcome to attend. Registration is not required.
