We understand gender as a social and cultural construction that essentially shapes all everyday perception and action. How these projections, perceived as masculine, feminine, androgynous or “in between”, determine design processes as well as use and communication is part of the subject of this area of expertise.
In addition to the classical methods of the social and cultural sciences, forms of “research-based learning” and “research through design” are practiced and qualified as cognitive processes. The aim is to gain a profound understanding of the mechanisms of “doing gender” and to develop criteria for gender-sensitive design.The professorship is currently vacant, but is covered by KISD faculty and teaching assignments.
