In the last two decades, »Service Design« has become a renowned area of expertise in the design world. The application of design competencies, processes and methods to services – in both, the public and the private sector – has proven to foster innovation and to create value.
KISD was the first university ever to establish »Service Design« as a field in design education. Systemic and holistic thinking, interdisciplinarity, facilitation and inspiration of cocreation processes, development of mock-ups and prototypes – these core competencies of designers are applied to service organizations and processes, to interactions and to physical evidences. Working in the realm of services also asks for competencies in the areas of strategic thinking and cultural change. Creating service experiences that are useful, usable and desirable – valuable and different is the credo of Service Design!
