Requirements

Academic Degree

If you want to apply for the MA program at KISD you need an academic degree (BA or higher) with 4 years study time (240 ECTS). Your professional experience might be taken into account if the study time is less than 4 years.

English Language

As the instruction language is English, you should have a proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS or similar proof). For TOEFL a minimum of 79 (internet based version) is required. For IELTS a number of 5.0/5.5/6.0 is required.

The MA course is extremely demanding. We are therefore looking for professionals with a strong background and commitment for a postgraduate program. Therefore, we ask you for a lot of information about yourself and your project plan. This also helps you to make up your mind in terms of what you want to do in the MA course and to get in touch with KISD professors for your project at KISD.

• Testified certificate(s) of previous study course(s) (BA, MA, Diplom)
• Testified work experience (e.g. job references from employers)
• Project brief for the self-initiated project (about 3600 characters)
• Project timeline (including the nomination of three supervising professors from KISD)
• Project elaboration and visualisation (in appropriate means)
• Proof of English proficiency
• Portfolio / work samples

We need to know what you have studied before (BA or higher). 

Testified work experience

We want to know more about your professional work experience – so please send us some job references from employers or clients, for example.

Project timeline

The project timeline shows how you want to structure your project work in the first 4 months (full-time; if you are aiming at a part-time study you will have about 8 months for the self-initiated project).

Please nominate two supervising professors from KISD of your choice and explain your motivation for choosing the respective supervisors. You can find more information about our professors on our  website.

Project visualisation & Elaboration

Please send us an elaboration and visualisation of your idea – using the media you consider as appropriate.

Portfolio

We want to see what you have done before – so please send us a portfolio with some work samples.

Foreign Applicants

If you do not hold an academic degree (BA, Geman Diplom or higher) of a German university, you need to apply additionally at  uni-assist at the same time then applying at KISD. They will check your national degree qualifications. uni-assist is a certification office founded to make the application procedure for international student applicants easier and at the same time to support German universities in the selection of their foreign students.

Please find some further information on  www.uni-assist.de. You can apply online and send your documents to uni-assistby email. Please be aware that you have to send certified copies of your documents by mail in any case!

Please enclose the following documents with your application:

• Application form
• A copy of your school-leaving qualifications, where applicable a university entrance examination and/or a proof of your studies and university degree, where applicable, translation of these documents
• Curriculum vitae
• A copy of your passport page stating name, date of birth etc.
• Passport photo
• A copy of the transfer voucher

All copies need to be certified. Please do not send any originals!

An authentication by an office in Germany or by the institution issuing the certificate is sufficient („amtliche Beglaubigung“). This can be done by any public institution carrying an official seal, e.g. public authorities (town halls, embassies etc), notaries or churches under public law. Lawyers, health insurances or translators are not allowed to issue an authentication. Translators can only do so with documents they translated themselves.

Documents in a foreign language have to be translated by a certified translater, unless they are in English or French.
